Conjugação incompleta
Os verbos defectivos são aqueles que não possuem conjugação completa. Em outras palavras, são aqueles que não podem ser conjugados em alguns modos, tempos e pessoas. Nesses casos, o comum é substituí-los por verbos sinônimos que possuam a conjugação desejada.
Exemplos:
Viger;
Colorir;
Falir;
Esculpir;
Banir;
Brandir;
Carpir;
Demolir;
Delinquir;
Ruir;
Explodir;
Feder;
Bramir;
Extorquir;
Retorquir;
Doer.
Classificação dos verbos defectivos
Os verbos defectivos são classificados em: impessoais, unipessoais e pessoais.
Impessoais
Os impessoais são aqueles que não possuem sujeito. Esse grupo é formado pelos verbos que indicam fenômenos da natureza, do verbo “haver” no sentido de existir e do verbo “fazer” no sentido de tempo decorrido.
Exemplos:
Choveu muito ontem à noite.
Faz dez anos que começamos esse trabalho.
Há vinte carros no estacionamento.
Unipessoais
Os unipessoais são aqueles que indicam a voz dos animais. Eles normalmente ficam na terceira pessoa — do singular ou do plural.
Exemplos:
As gatos miaram a noite inteira.
Quando saí de casa, meu cachorro latiu.
Em noite de lua cheia, os lobos uivam.
Pessoais
Por fim, os pessoais são aqueles que, diferentemente dos impessoais, possuem sujeito. Contudo, eles não são conjugados em algumas formas.
Exemplos:
Vou colorir esse desenho todo. (não existe “eu coloro”)
Com tanta cobrança, eu vou explodir. (não existe “eu explodo”)
Ele costuma a retorquir tudo o que os pais falam. (não existe “ele retorque”)
